Visit from Professor Mark Potosnak
This week, we had the pleasure of Professor Mark Potosnak visiting from DePaul University, Chicago. His research primarily focuses on interactions between climate change, plants and air quality such as how BVOCs (biogenic volatile organic compound) emissions from plants can affect the atmospheric chemistry and also how climate change may affect this interaction. He has conducted studies in several different ecosystems such as urban, temperate, tropical, arid and tundra ecosystems – many of which are susceptible to climate change.
Prof. Potosnak came to Copenhagen Monday the 11th and paid a visit to VOLT, where he got a tour of the different labs and projects from our center director Riikka Rinnan. After this, he had a discussion with several center members about his projects as well as his students’ - such as measuring plant BVOCs at highways or biking around Chicago measuring air quality. Additionally, the discussion also included VOLT projects like Jolanta Rieksta’s project about herbivory in mountain birch, and how it can affect the BVOCs emissions.
